WHAT IS TELEPHONY SERVICE

What is an office telephone system?

Close up person working call center
Telephones remain important communication tools. Although mobile phones have reduced the use of home landlines, office telephone systems remain popular because they serve many purposes. They support communication between departments and branches, call transfers, conference calls, and customer contact through call center functions such as call waiting.

Using one business telephone number can also present a more professional image and make customer contact simpler. Incoming calls can be transferred to the relevant department rather than giving customers several different numbers, which can be confusing.

Analog phones versus IP phones

Analog phones

Analog phones communicate over copper wires. They support basic functions such as answering, dialing, transferring, holding, and combining calls through a telephone exchange. Some can operate without local electricity when the exchange remains operational. They are inexpensive, but adding or relocating phones can require new wiring.

What is an IP phone?

IP phones can look similar to ordinary analog desk phones, but their internal technology provides more flexible functions. They connect through LAN cables, and some support Wi-Fi. IP phones were once less popular because of their cost, but more affordable prices have increased their appeal. They offer varied functions, straightforward maintenance, voice and video communication, and, on some models, Android and touchscreens, making them useful for organizations.
